Canberra, Australia – AIA Canberra Medallion 2000

With DJAS, Simon Kringas was the Project Architect for the design and documentation of the CSIRO Discovery Centre in Canberra, awarded the peak Australian Institute of Architects 'Canberra Medallion' in 2000 as a work of 'exemplary standard'. The large-scale complex features biomolecular laboratories alongside a public exhibition hall, café, educational, retail and conference facilities, providing interaction between scientific and public domains. A dramatic glass atrium spans over a central garden void separating the public and research areas. The building incorporates contemporary energy saving technologies, including geothermal heating.
