Embassy of Algeria

Canberra, Australia

A 'Z' wall carves the sloping site, generating a public court that addresses the street and a secluded private domain beyond, so dividing the Embassy from the Ambassador's residence. The concourse extends beneath raised levels that span between the faces of the court walls, arriving at a light-filled inner atrium from where stairs rise to the upper floors. On the other side, the residence opens to the garden and northern light. Common floor plates pierce the wall, reconnecting the Embassy and residence internally.
